2 Ways To Help Your Auto Accident Attorney Win

If you have been in a car accident and you are being accused of causing it, or if you have to defend yourself against insurance companies or other drivers who want for you to pay for their damage, you are going to need to have an auto accident attorney who specializes in traffic law come help you handle your court appearances. What can you do to help your attorney win your case?

Witness Statements

One of the things that you should do to help your attorney is to give them witness statements. You hopefully talked to everyone who was around you when you were in the accident and were able to get their names and information. That way you will be able to give that contact info to the attorney so they can contact the witnesses and talk to them directly about what they saw. Even if you have written statements from all the witnesses, your attorney will want to talk to them anyway because they are going to be able to get information from the witnesses that you might not have thought to get from them on your own.

Police Reports

The police should have been called to your accident. That means that they will have written up reports about the accident. If there was more than one police officer who was there, they will each write up their own report, so make sure that you get every report from every police officer who was at the accident. The reports should have information like the other driver's name, what kind of damage they saw on the cars, and what everyone reported the cause of the accident to be.

If the officer did any field sobriety tests, that information will also be on the police reports. In some states, not all, the police reports will also put who was at fault for the accident. If it was a severe accident, an accident reconstruction officer will come and look at the site, look at the reports, and look at the cars. They will do what they can to figure out exactly what happened in the accident and then will write an additional report. So when you go to the police department, make sure that you ask questions to make sure that you have every possible report, including one from an accident reconstruction officer.

If you have been in a car accident, the other party or insurance company may sue you for damages. If they do, you will need to have a lawyer to help you.
